How it works
Light that targets colour
IPL uses a range of light wavelengths rather than the single wavelength of a laser. Selected filters allow your clinician to target melanin in certain brown spots or haemoglobin in small blood vessels.
The absorbed light becomes heat, treating these targets in a controlled way. As the skin responds, selected pigmentation and visible vessels become less noticeable.
Settings selected for your skin
Filters, pulse settings and energy are adjusted according to the concern and your skin characteristics. Contact cooling helps protect the surface and improve comfort. You may feel warmth or a brief snapping sensation during treatment.
What it treats
Sunspots, freckles & uneven tone
IPL can reduce selected benign brown spots and sun-related pigmentation. We assess pigmented areas first to determine whether light treatment is appropriate.
Redness & small visible vessels
Treatment may reduce facial redness and small surface vessels, including some redness associated with rosacea. It does not cure rosacea, which may also need skincare or medical management.
Sun-related changes in skin appearance
By addressing suitable pigment and vascular concerns, IPL can improve the overall appearance of sun-affected skin. Treatment areas may include the face, chest or hands, depending on suitability.
Sessions & aftercare
Your treatment plan
Some concerns respond to a small number of appointments; others need a course. We recommend the number and spacing based on the condition, treatment area and your response.
What recovery looks like
Temporary redness, warmth or swelling may occur. Treated brown spots can darken before gradually fading or flaking away. Many clients resume everyday activities promptly, although visible changes may last longer.
Aftercare that protects your result
Use gentle skincare and protect treated areas from the sun. Let any flaking or crusting settle naturally.
Our team will explain when to resume makeup, active skincare, exercise and heat exposure. Check with us before scheduling other skin treatments.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which treatment I need?
We assess the cause of your concern. IPL primarily addresses selected pigmentation and redness; ResurFX focuses on texture, fine lines and scars. Your plan may include one treatment or both.
Can IPL and ResurFX be combined?
Yes, where appropriate. The two technologies can address different aspects of skin appearance within a coordinated plan. We’ll discuss whether combining them suits your skin and recovery needs.
Are these treatments suitable for skin of colour?
Suitability differs between IPL and ResurFX. Skin tone, recent tanning and your tendency to develop pigmentation affect treatment selection and settings. IPL requires particular caution in darker skin, and another approach may be preferable.
Can M22 treat melasma?
Melasma needs a careful, individual plan. Heat and inflammation can worsen pigmentation in some patients, so IPL or laser treatment is not automatically the right choice for every dark patch.
How should I prepare?
Avoid tanning and tell us about recent sun exposure, medications, active skincare, cold sores and recent procedures. We’ll provide treatment-specific preparation instructions. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.
How long will results last?
This depends on the concern, your response, sun exposure and ongoing skin changes. Sun protection and appropriate skincare help maintain improvement. Further treatment may be recommended after review.
Are there any risks?
Risks include burns, blistering, pigment changes, infection and, less commonly, scarring. Careful assessment, appropriate settings and following aftercare instructions help reduce risk.
When should I contact the team after treatment?
Contact us promptly for persistent burning, increasing pain, worsening swelling, blisters, discharge or unexpected skin colour changes. Vision symptoms require immediate emergency assessment.
Not sure if M22 IPL is right for you?
You don’t need to know exactly what treatment you need before coming in. We’ll assess your concerns, talk through your goals and recommend an approach that makes sense for you.
