Dr. Steph on laser hair removal

This short video from Dr. Steph is on the way.

How it works

Targeting the follicle, beneath the surface

LightSheer delivers a precise diode laser pulse that is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in your hair. This light converts to heat, damaging the follicle’s ability to produce new hair.

Why treatment works in stages

Hair grows in cycles, and laser treatment is most effective during the active growth phase. Because different hairs enter this phase at different times, a course of appointments is needed to achieve a lasting reduction.

What it treats

Unwanted facial hair

Selected areas such as the upper lip, chin and jawline can be treated when the hair has enough pigment to respond. We assess facial hair carefully, particularly fine hair or growth influenced by hormones.

Unwanted body hair

Common treatment areas include the underarms, arms, legs, bikini area, chest, back and abdomen. Treatment can focus on a small area or form part of a broader hair-reduction plan.

Ingrown hairs & shaving irritation

Reducing hair growth can help reduce recurring ingrown hairs and the irritation associated with frequent shaving. Active inflammation or infection may need to settle before treatment.

Dense hair you’d like to reduce

You don’t have to want complete hair removal. Treatment may also be used to reduce density, making unwanted hair easier to manage. The degree of reduction varies.

Sessions & results

How your course is planned

We recommend the number and spacing of appointments according to the area, hair thickness, skin tone and response. Facial and body areas may need different schedules, and we review your progress throughout treatment.

As your results develop

Treated hairs shed over the following weeks. As your course progresses, you may notice slower regrowth, fewer hairs and less need to shave. Any returning hair may be finer and less noticeable.

Maintaining your results

The goal is long-term hair reduction. Some hair can return, and hormonal changes may influence new growth, particularly on the face. Maintenance appointments may be recommended when needed.

Prep & aftercare

Before your appointment

  • Avoid tanning, sunburn and self-tanning products. Let us know about recent sun exposure.
  • Avoid waxing, plucking or threading beforehand, as these remove the hair the laser needs to target.
  • Shave according to our team’s instructions.
  • Arrive with the treatment area clean and free of makeup, deodorant or other products.
  • Tell us about medications, skin conditions and previous reactions. Check with our team before pausing skincare products, and do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.

What recovery may look like

Temporary redness, warmth or small bumps around the follicles can occur. These commonly settle within a few days, and most clients return to everyday activities after treatment.

Protecting your skin

Keep the area clean and treat it gently. Follow our instructions on moisturising, cool compresses, exercise and heat exposure.

Protect exposed areas from the sun with clothing, shade and broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Check with our team before resuming exfoliating acids, retinoids or other potentially irritating products.

When to contact us

Contact our team if you develop blisters, worsening pain, persistent swelling, discharge or unexpected skin colour changes.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Is LightSheer suitable for skin of colour?

LightSheer offers treatment options for a wide range of skin tones, including darker skin. We assess your skin, hair and recent sun exposure before selecting appropriate settings. Skin tone alone does not determine suitability.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

You may feel brief warmth, a pinch or a snapping sensation. LightSheer’s cooling and vacuum-assisted technologies help manage discomfort, but sensitivity varies by person and area.

Does it work on every hair colour?

Laser relies on pigment in the hair. Darker, thicker hair generally responds best; white, grey, very light blonde and red hair usually respond poorly. We’ll assess whether your hair is suitable before treatment.

Can I shave between sessions?

Yes. Shaving leaves the follicle in place. Avoid waxing, plucking or threading during your course, and follow our instructions on when to shave around appointments.

How is LightSheer different from IPL?

LightSheer uses a targeted diode laser wavelength. IPL uses a broader spectrum of light. They are different technologies, so treatment settings, suitability and results depend on the device and how it is used.

Can it help with hormonal facial hair?

It may reduce suitable pigmented hair, but it does not treat the hormonal cause. Ongoing growth can mean additional sessions or maintenance. New or increasing facial hair may also warrant medical assessment.

Are there any risks?

Temporary redness, swelling and discomfort are common. Burns, pigment changes, infection and scarring can also occur. Careful assessment, appropriate settings and following preparation and aftercare guidance help reduce these risks.

Bring your concern, not a treatment name.

Whether it’s unwanted facial hair, recurring ingrown hairs or the constant upkeep of shaving, tell us what you’d like to address. We’ll assess your skin and hair and help you decide whether LightSheer suits your goals.
